Studio welcomes the first of three album releases from Litmus 0 0 0 1. (Jonathan Ewald). Hikikomori. An excellent ambient project in three movements. In my humble opinion the artist has totally captured what I would imagine to be the feeling of hikikomori. The constant din and drone of the city with eerie undertones of alone-ness. Enjoy Hikikomori.

In Japan, hikikomori (ひきこもり or 引き籠り) are reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement. Hikikomori refers to both the phenomenon in general and the recluses themselves. Hikikomori have been described as loners or "modern-day hermits". Estimates suggest that nearly half a million Japanese youth have become social recluses.

litmus0001 is Jonathan Ewald, a multi- instrumentalist and gifted producer from the U.S. who creates ambient soundscapes by way of live instrumentation through a series of effects and loops. While the six string bass is his focus, his use of guitar, synth, and programmed rhythms is exemplary and helps add to the depth of his improvisations. His music has been described as "downtempo neo-psychedelic organo-electronic post/avant/anti-rock," and this portrayal barely scratches the surface. The creations of litmus 0001, as you will see, are haunting drones, sub-bass oscillations, beautiful ambiences and much more.
